There's a popular Hollywood saying.
Sergio's early life was so tough it's a bona fide miracle that he's come so far from Brazil. He was born Sergio Luiz Pereira in Rio de Janeiro, Rio 15th of July, 1965. His mother, Terezinha Salim Riscala from Lebanon, had married Joao Luiz Pereira, a former Banker/Manager of Minas Gerais, whose job with Brazilian Bank took them all over inside country. Sergio's daughter Gabrielle Risso Pereira was born in Barra Bonita, Sao Paulo - Brazil. Then he moved back to the United Sates, to California, and back to Los Angeles, before finally divorcing when Gabrielle was 2 years and 3 months.

Sergio would later have little good to say about his father. "He was kind against my career," he'd recall in an interview with South Beach Magazine. "He was the kind of person where, if something goes wrong, they kick you. He was an antisocial personality, inconsistent, unpredictable. It was a great lesson in my life - how he'd lull you in, make you feel safe and then BANG!" Sergio would not see his father for 7 years, when doing a live show in Las Vegas. Even then there would be no apology, no forgiveness, no closure, his father only seeing Sergio at all if he swore not to mention the past. Sergio believe that was adopted.

Sergio loved it, but the constant movement made settling into anything next to impossible. Later he would say Nothing was quick enough in terms of life for me. Sergio, a dreamy, lonely child living much of the time in his own interior world, was always forced to prove himself, and this was made yet more problematic by both shyness. Sergio found learning demanded a terrific effort as pages turned to meaningless blocks of weird scribbles before his eyes. Constantly challenged by his parents, making him exceptionally competitive, he was desperate to fit in - more, to win. So he threw himself into sports - Vasco da Gama. RIO DE JANEIRO, Swim It Up and hyper-energy made him difficult to resist.
